Our team boasts decades of combined experience from the world’s most challenging oceans. Every member of our crew is a local expert who grew up on these waters, providing you with unparalleled knowledge of local fish migratory patterns and feeding habits.
Captain Leopoldo “Leo” Cruz (Lead Captain & Operations Manager):
A specialist in Caribbean deep-sea techniques with over 20 years of maritime experience. Leo has been captaining vessels along the Riviera Maya for more than 16 years.
Gregorio “Chino” Kumul Canche:
An expert captain with over 18 years of experience navigating the local coastline.
Rodger Cameron:
Bringing the heritage of a commercial fisherman from Port Hood Island, Nova Scotia, Rodger ensures a world-class standard of service.

The “Lobster Tales” Experience
We own and operate our primary vessel, ‘Lobster Tales,’ a 40ft Luhrs sportfishing vessel. By never subcontracting our services, we maintain absolute quality control over every excursion. See us in action in our photo gallery.
Onboard Amenities & Safety:
- Performance: Powered by twin 465 HP Yanmar engines and equipped with a tuna tower for spotting trophy fish.
- Comfort: Full air conditioning, a private bathroom (head), and a kitchen.
- Professional Gear: Tournament-grade Penn and Shimano tackle, custom-made rods, and a professional fighting chair.
- Safety First: Fully equipped with life jackets, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, flares, and an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon).

We believe your time on the water should be stress-free. Every charter is all-inclusive, covering:
- Professional English-speaking Crew.
- Federal Fishing Licenses for every passenger.
- Fresh Bait (Ballyhoo and live bait when available).
- Food & Drinks: Snacks, bottled water, sodas, and fresh ceviche made from your catch.
- Catch Services: Professional cleaning and filleting of your sustainable catch.
Conservation & Seasonality
We are committed to the sustainability of the Riviera Maya’s marine life. While you are welcome to keep edible species like Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, and Snapper, we practice a strict obligatory catch-and-release policy for all Billfish (Marlin and Sailfish). Follow our fishing reports to see what we’ve been catching.
- Peak Season (March–August): Best for Sailfish, Marlin, and Mahi-Mahi.
- Fall/Winter (October–February): Ideal for Wahoo, Amberjack, Grouper, and Snapper.
Location & Logistics
Based at the Puerto Aventuras Marina, we are centrally located for guests staying throughout the region:
- From Akumal: 20 minutes.
- From Playa del Carmen: 30 minutes.
- From Tulum: 40 minutes.
We offer flexible charter lengths including 4, 6, 8, and 10-hour trips to fit your schedule.
